The French Garden
The French Garden introduces a moment of structure and classic planting within the wider landscape of the Reverie.
A square frame of low Ilex crenata hedges defines the garden room, with an archway on each side leading into the space. Half of the garden enjoys full sun, while the other half lies in partial shade beneath mature maple trees.
At the centre stands a Plum tree, surrounded by a circular planting of Lavender that attracts bees and butterflies throughout the summer.
Roses give the garden its character. Climbing, floribunda and English shrub roses fill the sunny corners with colour and fragrance, accompanied by Gaura lindheimeri and evergreen Choisya ternata. In the shadier corners, ostrich ferns grow alongside hydrangeas, astilbes and Japanese anemones, creating a softer woodland contrast. In between these four corners of planting, there is a seating area.
Across the seasons the garden unfolds from spring blossom to summer roses, followed by hydrangeas and autumn colour, while evergreen shrubs and winter-flowering Mahonia × media keep the garden alive even in colder months.
